Inflammation is at the heart of 98% of all disease.   &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is not something I am making up.  This subject made the cover of TIME magazine in Febuary 2004.  The article was titled INFLAMMATION: THE SILENT KILLER.  It proceeded to link all kinds of "New Milenium Diseases" with global inflammation in the cells and tissues.   &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When cells become inflammed, the proper nutrition cannot get in and the waste cannot get out.   This congests the cell and causes malfunction of many kinds.  It can clog up the mitochonria ( the power source of the cell) and cause fatigue.  It can interfere with the DNA replication of the nucleus leading to many types of issues, tumors being just one.  Inflammed cells of the blood vessels can decrease the lumen (opening) the blood flows through.  This decreased capacity for blood flow will increase blood pressure.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Inflammation goes hand in hand with acidity (reason #4). Together they make a deadly cocktail.  Yet another good reason to stay away from sugar, or anything that turns into sugar, in order to prevent yourself from becoming a 'STATISTIC'. In the average North American, because there is so much sugar consumed and available in the body,not all of it can be used as energy.  The body must do something with the extra sugar once in the cells. I am here to tell you... NO!  Due to my unfortunate dental issues and by subsequent research into all of my options for treatment, I have stumbled onto the world of HOLISTIC/BIOLOGICAL DENTISTRY. &lt;br /&gt;I had my initial examination last week at Dr. Laughlin's office called Health Centered Dentistry in River Falls Wisconsin.  The two hour consultation consisted of a an extremely thorough health history, physical exam of my teeth/mouth, panoramic x-rays, a cranial/lateral cervical x-ray, a cranio-sacral exam, an airway evaluation, a TMJ exam, a suboccipital evaluation, pictures of each tooth individually, and an impression of my teeth to make a model of my mouth for future treatment evaluation.  I was completely amazed how my entire body and the function of it was taken into account.  Holistic dentists not only analyze how your body is effecting your teeth, but also how your teeth are effecting you body.   All of their treatments take into account your overall health goals. It is so awesome to wake up to the wonderful smell!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;OVERNIGHT OATMEAL:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1 1/2c. rolled oats&lt;br /&gt;1/4c.   golden raisins&lt;br /&gt;1 large apple (chopped)&lt;br /&gt;3 3/4c. cups water&lt;br /&gt;1 1/2t. cinnamon&lt;br /&gt;1/8t.   nutmeg&lt;br /&gt;2 T.    gound or crushed flaxseeds&lt;br /&gt;1 t.    pure vanilla extract&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Optional...(I always use these!)&lt;br /&gt;3  T.   honey&lt;br /&gt;2  t.   chopped almonds or hazelnuts or walnuts&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Add all ingredients to large crock pot. It was sooooo great to have a packed house last Thurday at The Revolution Part 2: Toxicity and Deficiency. Unfortunately, when I tried to download the aspartame video we watched on the blog tonight, it did not work.  Go to mercola.com and view the March 2nd news letter, issue 1420.  You will find info to share with all your friends and family!!  Appartently, the jig is up.  Aspartame and its damaging effects can no longer be denied.  The name is being changed to "amino-sweet". What the heck is quinoa?? I thought that the first time I heard the word too! It is a grain that is super good for you and would be considered to be on the "food by God" carbohydrate list. It is a natural, non-processed grain in the same category as millet, barley, bulgar (tabouli), semolina, and steel cut oats. So far, quinoa is the only one of those good grains that i have tried to cook. I made it for the first time a few months ago and it it great!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_xMnPvtQUzw8/S3yNs0LyqPI/AAAAAAAAAA4/Clw6RTzdiOE/s1600-h/quinoa.jpg"&gt;&lt;img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439378251018578162" style="FLOAT: right; MARGIN: 0px 0px 8px 10px; WIDTH: 210px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 150px" alt="QUINOA-VEGGIE PILAF" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_xMnPvtQUzw8/S3yNs0LyqPI/AAAAAAAAAA4/Clw6RTzdiOE/s200/quinoa.jpg" border="0" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Quinoa is a FABULOUS substitute for all you pasta eaters out there. Now, I must admit that I have never been a pasta-addict but I do know that this is a big achilles heel for alot of you out there. Truth be told, I was always "calorie-phobic" of it so I fortunately never got hooked. Keep in mind, the reason people get hooked on it and get cravings for it is because it TURNS INSTANTLY INTO SUGAR IN YOUR BODY!! White rice, white or enriched bread and white pasta all do.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The third change on the Healing Diet is to remove sugars from your diet. WHY?&lt;br /&gt;Sugar is an ANTI-NUTRIENT stressing your insulin receptors,offering insignificant amounts of vitamins and minerals, and robbing your body of precious nutrient stores. This inevitably leads to diseases of the new millenium such as chronic fatigue, ADD/ADHD, diabetes,cancers, heart disease, obesity and premature aging. PRETTY GOOD REASON TO AVOID IT HUH??!!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So next time you have a craving for that bowl of fettucini, try a bowl of QUINOA.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;QUINOA-VEGGIE PILAF:&lt;br /&gt;2c. water&lt;br /&gt;1/2t. salt&lt;br /&gt;1c. guinoa (get this in the natural food section or natural food co-op)&lt;br /&gt;1T. olive oil (remember: you are heating this so use coconut oil instead!!)&lt;br /&gt;1/2c. each chopped onion, red pepper and carrots&lt;br /&gt;2t. grated ginger (I just dice it finely)&lt;br /&gt;1/2c. orange juice (you can leave this out as orange juice is pure sugar!!)&lt;br /&gt;1/3c chopped cilantro (you can leave out if you don't like cilantro and just use whatever spice you like after it is done)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1- Bring water and 1/4 tsp salt to boil. Add Quinoa, reduce heat, cover and simmer 10-15 minutes or until tender; drain.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;2- Meanwhile, heat oil in a large skillet (preferrably stainless steel... toss out all of your teflon!). It was easy! &lt;br /&gt;I love this recipe as is doesn't have any crust.  Quiche without a crust?! It is really, really good.  That is, if you like onions.  This recipe also has GOOD fats in it so you know you are doing your body good.  So if you are bored with your scrambled, fried and poached eggs.... change it up by making a quiche!  I make it on Sunday night, put it in the oven on Monday morning and it is ready to go for the week.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;DOUBLE ONION QUICHE:&lt;br /&gt;3c.  thinly sliced yellow onions&lt;br /&gt;3T.  organic butter   (I love Hope Farms butter!)&lt;br /&gt;1c.  thinly sliced green onions&lt;br /&gt;3    organic free range eggs&lt;br /&gt;1c.  organic heavy cream&lt;br /&gt;1/2c.raw parmesan cheese  (the hard kind restaurants grate on your salad)&lt;br /&gt;1/4t.hot pepper sauce&lt;br /&gt;     oregano, parsley and basil to taste&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.&lt;br /&gt;2- In a medium skillet, cook and stir yellow onions in butter stirring occasionally for 10 minutes.&lt;br /&gt;3- Add green onions and cook 5 min.&lt;br /&gt;4- Remove from heat and cool.&lt;br /&gt;5- Whisk in cream, cheese, pepper sauce, and a sprinkle of oregano, parsley and basil.&lt;br /&gt;6- Stir in cooled onion mixture.&lt;br /&gt;7- Pour egg and onion mixture into pie plate sprayed with grapeseed oil spray. (I wiped the plate with butter or coconut oil until I got some grapeseed oil spray. It worked fine).&lt;br /&gt;8- Bake for approximately 30-40 minutes until knife inserted in center comes out clean. &lt;br /&gt;10- Cool 10 minutes before serving.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Let me know how you like this! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For all my "players" for the GRAND PRIZE in the Revolution series.... keep climbing! YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS THIS!!  My egg lady is coming to town!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Her name is Helen Walz.  She drives down from St. Cloud with a truck full of chickens and eggs!!  On Friday, Febuary 19th from 4 to 5:30pm, she is going to be at the Lakewinds Natural Foods Co-op in the parking lot dropping off orders of eggs and chickens:  AWARD WINNING,HOMEGROWN, NATURALLY FED, NO ANTIBIOTICS, NO STEROIDS, NO HORMONES, AND NO ANIMAL BY-PRODUCT FEED.   And the BEST PART.... ONE DOZEN EGGS IS ONLY $2.50!!!!&lt;br /&gt;HAVE YOU SEEN WHAT THEY COST AT THE GROCERY STORE??  THIS IS THE DEAL OF THE CENTURY!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I order 5 dozen eggs at a time as my husband and I eat so many.  They keep up to a month with no problem.  Remember, eggs are a fabulous form of protein and nutrients IF THEY ARE GOOD AND CLEAN!  IF NOT, THEY ARE LITERALLY TOXIC!   &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What do I do with that many eggs?   I boil up a dozen every sunday afternoon and eat them throughout the week.  I put them on salads or eat a plain one with mustard as a dip.  I also make various flavors of deviled eggs (which my husband loves)by changing up the mustards and spices you mix with the yolks.  If you like spicy food, it is fun to add a hot sauce to the mix or if you like salty, top them with capers.  I also will make a quiche, keep it in the refrigerator for the week and have a piece each day for breakfast. It is February 2010 and the "Revolution" continues.  Don't give up making one new healthy change every day or even one per week.  It could be buying a different food, getting some exercise, taking time to yourself, or cleaning out a closet.  The options are limitless.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I was just thinking about bread.  I love bread.  Who doesn't? &lt;br /&gt;If you remember from the Healing Diet, I encouraged you to make a change with your bread.  Essentially, as soon as bread hits your digestive system it breaks down into SUGAR.  Americans consume,knowingly or unknowingly, an average 1.1 CUPS of sugar per day.  That is 120 pounds of sugar per person per year!!  HELLO DIABETES, OBESITY AND HEART DISEASE!! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;One of the best and easiest changes you can make in your diet is to take out processed dead bread and replace it with LIVING SPROUTED BREAD.  There are a couple different brands, but the one i have been using is Ezekiel 4:9.  It contains absolutely no refined or enriched flour which turns immediately in to SUGAR and consequently spikes your insulin levels.   It is made of 6 grains and legumes that when combined and sprouted together form a complete protein with 18 different amino acids.  This "bread by man" is the closest thing to "bread by God" you can find.  In fact, on the package it quotes the Holy Scripture from Ezekiel4:9... "Take also unto thee wheat,and barley, and beans, and lentils, and millet, and spelt and put them in one vessel and make bread of it."  I LOVE cinnamon raisin toast with coconut oil on it and the tortillas.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Remember that the less food with labels we eat and the more food without labels we eat, the healthier we will be.  This is obviously a food with a label, but is a great alternative to going "cold turkey" off bread.  We are all addicted to sugar and this is a way to help get out of the sugar cycle.  It has really made a difference for me.  Now when i eat "normal" bread, I find myself craving sugar afterwards. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Give it a try. If not, you can use these anytime.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;How about a Southwestern theme?  My husband LOVES tacos.  I found a way to make the taco seasoning much healthier than the kind you buy in a packagge.  Most seasonings in a package are LOADED with artificial ingredients and dangerous additives.  Try this:  &lt;br /&gt;2T. chili powder          &lt;br /&gt;1/2t. onion powder&lt;br /&gt;2T. flour (optional)      &lt;br /&gt;1/2t. garlic powder&lt;br /&gt;1/2t. salt                &lt;br /&gt;2t. oregano&lt;br /&gt;2t. cumin               &lt;br /&gt;1/2t. cayenne pepper&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Combine all ingredients in a ziplock and shake until completely mixed.  Add to browned grass fed ground beef along with 1/2-3/4c. water and cook until reduced to desired consistency.  When making taco filling, add 1/2c salsa to the pan while heating.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You can't have tacos with out guacamole!  This is so very easy to make and healthy.  If you are in a rush, use only the first three ingredients and it will still be wonderful.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;1 avocado, mashed                &lt;br /&gt;2-3t. salsa                      &lt;br /&gt;sea salt to taste                &lt;br /&gt;OPTIONAL:&lt;br /&gt;chili or onion powder&lt;br /&gt;garlic,chopped or pressed&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Cut avocado in half, remove pit, and use a spoon to scoop out the middle.  Smash avocado with a fork, add salsa and stir.  Enjoy immediately.  If you make it ahead, add some lemon drops to keep it from browning.  TIP: To cut an avocado, first cut all the way around it lenghtwise with a knife and seperate.  Lightly tap the knife into the pit inside and twist.  The pit will pop right out.  You can use a spoon to  scoop the avocado out or slice it right in the skin and then turn inside out to remove. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I eat this a couple times a week.  I use fresh veges to dip in it and non-grain crackers like Lydia's.  UNFORTUNATELY, even my "healthy blue chips" had hydrogenated oils ih them! So sad!  I will let you know if i come across any that don't have bad fats in them.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I hope you enjoy trying these recipes!  My condolences to all you VIKINGS FANS out there. As I have already disposed of my can of commercial oven cleaner, I am going to attempt to use the natural recipe from part one of the Revolution series.  I will let you know how it goes!  It should be interesting.  Here is the recipe again for you. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Natural Oven Cleaner:&lt;br /&gt;1/2c.  salt&lt;br /&gt;1/4c.  borax&lt;br /&gt;1 16oz  box baking soda&lt;br /&gt;1c. water&lt;br /&gt;3/4c. white vinegar&lt;br /&gt;10 drops thyme essential oil&lt;br /&gt;10 drops lemon essential oil&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Next time you are in the grocery store, pick up a big jug of white vineagar and a big box of baking soda.   It works great for cleaning toilets and sinks, NATURALLY AND TOXIN FREE!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A tip from "Mama Margo"..... combine some vodka and water in a spray bottle and you will have a safe, as well as effective, deoderizer. Sun is my day to spend a few hours to get my food prepared for the week.  I make up a HUGE salad and then split it into small containers.  It is super convenient to have for lunches!  TIP:  don't put things like peppers or mushrooms in it as they will get soggy before you eat the salad.  If the lettuce is fresh, it will last for a good 8-9 days.  My husband will eat salads ONLY if he does not have to prepare them, so I am more than happy to do it!&lt;br /&gt;My new favorite recipe I want to share is Mashed No-tatoes.  Regular white potatoes have a very high glycemic index; therefore, as soon as you eat them they will turn into SUGAR!!  Remember.... this is very important to be conscious of (especially if trying to lose weight) as your body will just store this sugar quickly in the form of  fat if not used.   Too much sugar equals stressed out insulin receptors which leads to diabetes!!   You will love it as it tastes just like mashed potatoes.   One head cauliflower, sea salt and black pepper to taste, 2 T. organic butter, 1-2 cloves of garlic (optional).  Steam until very soft.
